Reconnecting
With visitor’s day coming, one of the best resources for us to approach for our visitor list is LOST CONNECTIONS.
We all have them:
ü The business contacts we made months or even years ago, who were not ready to talk business at that time
ü Friends that we only hear from once or twice a year
ü Acquaintances we met at function / party, took their business card & forgot about it
QUESTIONS WE NEED TO ASK OURSELVES BEFORE RECONNECTING:
1. Why did we lose contact? The attempt to reconnect can have that awkward moment if the reason was a fault of our own
2. How did we originally know these people? That answer might prompt the opening you need for contacting them – business, personal, religious, charity work?
3. What is the value of this person to our group, and vice versa? It might be nice to strike up the conversation for the sake of old times, but if the reason is to invite them to BNI you need to know what we bring to the table for each other
WHERE CAN YOU FIND THESE PEOPLE?
Rolodex, Old emails, Xmas mailing lists, social networks (Internet), social networks (personal), Chambers, Rotaries, Church/Temple
Well, you know their names and you have their phone numbers – what better excuse to reconnect than an invitation to a BNI meeting that will help them to increase their business (and of course in the process free up that money they needed to do business with you!).
It provides you that opening you were looking for to re-engage in the conversations that got stalled for some reason. And of course it helps fill that list of 30 names you’re looking for!
